SHED
Mike Nesbit, 2019
Little Italy, Omaha
SHED is Mike Nesbit’s third sculptural exhibit in the Midwest and his second in Omaha, Nebraska. With a continuing interest in taking notice at the things we overlook, the shed is a 100-year-old structure that sits within the landscape in the historic Little Italy neighborhood of Omaha. Weathered by the passage of time and forgotten by most, a corridor has been sliced through the structure as an avenue to further appreciate its relationship between with the landscape. The cuts of the shed are capped, and a mixture of acrylic and white marble dust is applied to further enhance its sculptural qualities of volume, texture, light, and shadow. The shed, removed of its utility, becomes a sculpture that quietly questions our own judgment towards the things we overlook within the landscape we travel through everyday.
the sound of a compressor
a plane overhead
chatter of the gun
a rhythm broken
judgement of opacity
canvas to the landscape
utility removed
a breeze between the trees
trembling of the tall grass
the compressor hums
the gun chatters
